Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Outdoor Spaces

    Conduct audits of public spaces to identify barriers to accessibility. Improve access by installing ramps, enhancing lighting and incorporating seating areas, age-friendly fitness equipment and accessible pathways in parks.

  2. Transportation

    Develop a mobile app and website to provide transit riders with real-time updates on bus and shuttle arrival times. Implement a fare subsidy program for low-income residents, people with disabilities and older adults.

  3. Housing

    Offer home repair, modification and maintenance assistance, including a service to replace and service air conditioning systems for older adults.

Project Category: Public space activation

Description: To promote safe, physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, Curry Ford West created a pop-up park on a vacant lot. During a community event, two-hundred volunteers constructed a labyrinth onsite made of brightly painted recycled pallets. The park remained in place for a month. Project organizers say the park and labyrinth helped connect the community during a time when people were separated. They also report the pop-up project helped demonstrate to local government leaders the importance of community green space. In the future, Curry Ford West hopes to install more pop-up parks as part of its advocacy for more public spaces in Orlando.

Project Category: Accessory dwelling units, tiny homes and manufactured housing

Description: The project will raise awareness of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and make the permit process more user-friendly for intergenerational households that want to build an ADU for older family members.
