Description: West Center City is a predominantly Black neighborhood in Wilmington which has historically lacked bicycle infrastructure. To give people a place to park their bikes, Wilmington Alliance installed three new art racks in central areas -- an upgrade from the single bicycle rack that once served the whole neighborhood. Local artists designed Art Racks, with each rack's look highlighting the community's rich history. Project organizers say the racks not only add a secure place to lock up bike but add a sculptural element all can enjoy. They are installed in community gathering spaces, including at greenspaces and community centers.

Providence, RI

Description: Older adults in Providence Housing Authority apartments faced isolation and limited transportation options, especially with looming transit cuts. To help, Recycle-A-Bike refurbished and distributed 65 bicycles with helmets, locks and repair kits. They also taught safety and repair skills during hands-on sessions. Older adults now have a reliable way to travel independently, and some visited the shop for follow-up maintenance. Videos captured riders pedaling for the first time, underscoring how the project boosted mobility and connection while sparking plans for continued bike distribution.

Huntsville, AL

Description: To make their city more environmentally friendly and attractive to bikers, the South Huntsville Main Business Association installed bike racks at grocery stores, parks and other frequently used locations. Each of the 36 racks feature a compass design created by local artist Bruce Weddendorf. Since their installation, business owners have reported an uptick in employees cycling to work. The city is now considering a proposal to require all businesses to install bike racks.
