Description: Milbank lacked basic amenities in parks and trails, making it harder for older adults and families to stay active and hydrated. The group installed benches at Flynn Nature Trail, added bike racks in four parks and placed two outdoor water fountains near walking areas and pickleball courts. They also donated playground equipment to Lake Farley Park. These upgrades made parks more inviting and supported healthy activity for all ages. Residents have expressed excitement and the improvements sparked ideas for future projects like a sculpture garden.

Description: In Louisville's California Neighborhood, decades of disinvestment left residents without safe green space. The project opened phase one of Alberta O. Jones Park, adding fitness stations designed for all ages, especially older adults. Residents helped select equipment, and a ribbon-cutting drew more than 200 people. The park now offers a walkable destination that encourages physical activity and social interaction in one of the city's most underserved neighborhoods, creating a model for community-driven park leadership.

Project Category: Entrepreneurship and improved economic resilience
Description: Music and farming are deep parts of Augusta's culture. To support Black musicians and farmers through agrotourism, Garden City Jazz created a series of outdoor concerts, dubbed Soul Soil. The concert series -- which took place at local farms -- featured performances by professional gospel, jazz and blues musicians and attracted visitors from all around the region. The series also sparked important conversations about the inequities Black farmers face. This resulted in new partnerships, as well as the creation of cooperatively owned farmers market.
Augusta, GA

Project Category: Park enhancements
Description: Organizers with the Augusta Recreation and Parks Department noticed people were driving their vehicles into Henry H. Brigham Park, making park users feel unsafe. This project set out to prevent this, keeping a walking track, basketball court and playground area free from cars and trucks. The Department installed bollards, as well as benches -- which served the dual purpose of giving park patrons a place to rest. Additionally, organizers planted shade trees to make the park more appealing in the summer heat. To draw visitors, the Department also worked to increase recreational programming in the park, including Tai Chi classes.
