Action Plan Download
Greenwich developed its action plan in association with its Commission on Aging, largely focusing on also designating Greenwich a dementia-friendly community. The plan utilizes the guidelines and recommendations established by Dementia Friendly America, highlighting that a community that is dementia-friendly 'is informed, safe and respectful of individuals with the disease, their families and caregivers and provides supportive options that foster quality of life." All action items in the plan were drafted with the concerns and needs of those living with dementia and their loved one in mind.
Action Plan Highlights
Health and Community Services
Incorporate a dementia-friendly lens into all age-friendly work.Housing
Develop more affordable housing in targeted locations, enhancing the regulatory framework to promote a variety of different housing options for residents to age in place within the community.Transportation
Create a standalone, printable transportation guide for older adults and distribute to the Department of Human Services, doctor's offices, faith-based institutions, and other relevant organizations.
Progress Report
Greenwich has made improvements in several domains of livability. In outdoor spaces, construction of the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center has started and the Happy to Chat Bench project has resumed. In transportation, they created a transportation guide for older adults and education materials on transportation services. The town has expanded the use of its website to enhance community engagement, and the Commission on Aging and new Wallace Center will have a standalone website. They continued programs for social participation, including the TechCONNECTT and Tech-Time programs, and resumed the Taste-of-the-Town "Grab & Go" lunch program at Greenwich Senior Center.
