Older adults in Plains needed low-cost exercise options, yet available facilities offered limited court space and few features designed for comfort or safety. The Plains Pickleball Association upgraded local courts with an equipment shed, benches, a windbreak and a paved walkway that created safer entry points and shaded places to rest. These additions also protected gear and improved access for players learning during beginner nights, where many older adults participate. The improvements encouraged more residents to stay active and socialize in a safe environment. Community members said the updates "provided the finishing touches," noting how the sheltered seating and stable walking surface made play more welcoming.

Description: Part of larger efforts to create its Sea Services Memorial Park, this project created an accessible plaza on the waterfront. The memorial is located at the USS Anchorage anchor site to honor two ships of that name, as well as the Navy's role in Dutch Harbor during World War II. Organizers worked to landscape the site and add seating. Additionally, they installed storyboards, which describe the ships' history and the local significance of the Sea Services. The park showcases the USS Anchorage's newly restored anchor, which weighs 22,500 pounds. Organizers say the gathering space is especially important for veterans, who make up a large share of Alaska's population.

Description: To give residents the opportunity to express themselves and connect with each other, Sunrise Rotary Club installed outdoor musical instruments near the town's recreational field. The new Harmony Park features chimes, drums, a xylophone, Imbarimbas and a harp. The Club also added benches to the space, along with a welcome sign informing visitors about the instruments.

Description: The Town of Paonia made several improvements to Poulos Park, including construction of an accessible path, repairs to a wall, installation of new lighting and the addition of a conversation circle bench designed by local artists. The town also received the donation of a bronze sculpture to display in the park. Since these upgrades, a local theater company now uses the outdoor space, which also acts as a concert venue.

Description: For decades, outdated facilities at the Bison Range limited Tribal elders' ability to gather and connect with their heritage. These upgrades transformed the Visitor Center area into an inclusive space for cultural events and family outings. The project also set the stage for broader accessibility improvements, including a redesigned entrance and safer walking paths, reinforcing the Range's role as a place where history and community thrive.

Description: On the Flathead Reservation, many older adults face food insecurity and chronic health issues tied to poor nutrition. The project installed eight gardening boxes, purchased lumber for 20 more and provided seeds and soil. Volunteers built boxes and planted vegetables, creating spaces for growing food and teaching traditional preservation. The garden now supplies fresh produce to older adult meal programs and homebound older adults, improving nutrition and reducing isolation. "I was able to plant my salad vegetables with my grandchildren... They enjoyed watering, picking and tasting what we grew," one resident said.
