Description: A vacant lot on North Camden's waterfront was unappealing and attracted illegal dumping. The Camden Community Partnership decided to give the lot new life by turning it into a gathering space for residents of all ages. As part of larger efforts to activate the space, the Partnership commissioned a local artist to create a mural onsite. The artist asked older adults questions about their community and used their responses to inform the mural's design, which volunteers helped paint onto a nearby building. Since its completion, project organizers say the mural has served as a model for other local public art projects, with three additional murals in the works. The new greenspace has also tied into other community building work, including development of trail along the Delaware and Cooper Rivers.

Description: Downtown Rugby lacked a welcoming place for people to gather, so the Chamber set out to make the park more inviting with seating, art and holiday features that support walkability and community events. The team installed benches, picnic tables including an accessible table, umbrellas and new holiday props. It then activated the space with a Prairie Painted Piano scavenger hunt. Volunteers, many age 55-plus, helped prepare the area ahead of the Parade of Lights, when families used the new features. One visitor said "The additions were so fun to see... it is great to see people caring about this area and making improvements."

Description: Main Street Nevada addressed the lack of comfortable, accessible places for residents to gather downtown, where limited shade and seating made it hard for older adults and people with physical limitations to spend time outdoors. An underused alleyway offered little reason to linger, even though it sat near everyday destinations. The project transformed the space into a functional patio by adding accessible seating, shade and a level surface that supports easier movement and rest. Picnic tables, umbrellas and plants helped define the area as a welcoming place to pause and connect. After opening, older adults and other residents began using the space for casual socializing, including nearby downtown residents, creating a new gathering spot that supports social connection.
