Action Plan Download
Winnemucca and Humboldt County developed its action plan with the goals of creating ideal places for older adults to live and educating community members, organizations, religious groups, and businesses on the value and importance of every resident. The plan focuses on healthy living, creating a livable community, and capitalizing on existing community assets.
Action Plan Highlights
Health and Community ServicesFocus on Alzheimer's and dementia education by creating and delivering a lending library with books, pamphlets, and flyers on Alzheimer's, dementia, and caregiving, and partnering with the Northern Nevada Alzheimer's Association to bring virtual and live presentations such as '10 Warning Signs' and tips for caregivers.
Respect and InclusionCreate more accessible community gardens by building and modifying existing facilities to include paved trails for easy access of walkers and wheelchairs, highly raised beds, and special gardens dedicated to the efforts of Age- and Dementia-Friendly Winnemucca.
Communication and InformationExpand awareness and public education on aging and dementia by holding live and virtual "Dementia-Friends", "Bravo Zulu", and "Mobilizing Beliefs" trainings.
Progress Report Download
Winnemucca's age-friendly progress report focuses on public engagement and community involvement across several domains of livability. With an intention to create accessible, age-friendly events for all members of the community, the initiative has encouraged exercise and physical activity among older adults, as well as learning opportunities related to health and wellbeing. The age-friendly team held monthly meetings and public awareness campaigns to help residents get more involved in age-friendly work and focused on improving and updating an age-friendly community garden tailored to the unique needs of older adults, including pavers for wheelchair and walker users and hip-height raised beds.
