Action Plan Download
Wayne developed its action plan to enhance, rather than replace, the well-functioning informal networks for helping and connecting older adults which are already embedded in the community. The plan looks to deepen the resources of those networks, and extends their reach by adding additional volunteers to the effort. The plan also prioritizes connectedness and responsiveness to the individual needs of community members, acknowledging that each resident has different strengths and challenges. As a result, the action plan commits to improving outside spaces, making accessibility a factor in mobility, rehabilitating older buildings and adding accessibility features, and building new volunteer opportunities.
Action Plan Highlights
Outdoor Spaces
Revitalize downtown to be more accessible for older adults by extending sidewalks and crosswalks, and building an accessible public bathroom.Housing
Retrofit existing housing for older adults by widening doorways, and installing lever door handles, grab bars, and enhanced lighting. Revise zoning and other land use ordinances to allow ADUs, tiny houses, and congregate living facilities.
