Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Communication and Information

    Help older adults access information on health services, including information on preventive health maintenance and fitness and wellness activities, through a public awareness campaign.

  2. Housing

    Maintain affordable housing stock by expanding emergency home repair and homeowner rehabilitation programs, and reviewing developer requirements for building affordable housing.

  3. Transportation

    Make public transportation more accessible for older adults by installing weather enhancements at transit stops like additional shade and rain covers.

Progress Report Download

Tallahassee's age-friendly progress report shows the City's commitment to public transportation, walkability, aging in place and employment and volunteerism. The City worked to improve sidewalks, crosswalks and bus stops, with a focus on accessibility. They also offered public transit training to help residents navigate the local bus system. Additionally, they improved wayfinding signage to help people navigate around the community. The City is also working to expand home repair assistance programs to reach more older adults. They drafted development requirements for affordable housing construction and revised the zoning code to allow accessory dwelling units on single-family-home lots. Additionally, the City held a job and volunteering expo and is hoping to build a new senior center.

Project Category: Expansion and enhancement of transportation options

Description: Transportation barriers in Leon County left many older adults missing medical appointments and struggling with food insecurity. The project provided over 600 rides for people age 50-plus to health care, food pantries and essential services, improving access and reducing stress. Nearly half of the trips were for food, and others connected veterans to VA care. One rider said the program let her visit her church pantry safely and gave her a reliable transportation option.

Project description was created using generative AI and then reviewed for accuracy.

Project Category: ADUs, tiny homes, missing middle and manufactured housing

Description: A statewide housing design gallery will showcase adaptable, small-scale housing models suited for older adults. One community will receive technical support to apply a design on a real site.
