Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Housing

    Develop, implement, and advertise information and resources that support aging in the community. Expand the support of the Somerville Housing Authority to provide affordable housing options as well as case management services for residents.

  2. Health and Community Services

    Expand programs, services, and space offered by the Council on Aging to reach a broader segment of Somerville residents. Develop programs focused on financial literacy. Create new ways of providing information and assistance for caregivers, support groups for caregivers, and provide information about referral resources available.

  3. Social Participation

    Expand programs, services, and space offered by the Council on Aging to reach a broader segment of Somerville residents. Foster ways for residents to work together on strategies for addressing social isolation among seniors.

Description: Older adults will take part in bikeshare training that includes classroom learning, guided rides and group discussions. The program will increase comfort using shared bikes for short trips, recreation and everyday travel in three Massachusetts cities.
