Outdoor Spaces
Scarborough is embarking on a series of projects to enhance outdoor spaces and infrastructure. Key areas of focus include: 1. Sidewalk and Crosswalk Evaluation: The town plans to conduct an assessment of its sidewalks, crosswalks, and overall walkability to ensure they are safe and accessible. 2. Snow Removal Program: Scheduled for May 2023, Scarborough intends to develop a snow removal program involving SCS, AFS, SPW, and the SHS Key Club to ensure smooth pedestrian traffic during winter. 3. Improved Bathroom Access: Steps will be taken to make bathrooms more accessible in public areas, ensuring that they are easy to reach and use by all citizens. 4. Increased Seating: The town is set to increase the number of benches throughout the town, providing more resting places for pedestrians. 5. Scarborough is implementing various programs to aid and educate residents. These initiatives include informing residents about Tax Assistance Programs, liaising with Fix It programs from other towns for possible replication, and a weatherization program. The town will also enhance awareness of existing services for seniors, such as meals on wheels, SPL delivery, SFD smoke detectors, SPD sand delivery, and free beach passes. Efforts will be made to increase access to sand for seniors and improve safety/wellness checks availability.
