Action Plan Download
Oshkosh developed its action plan with the goal of creating an inclusive, safe, and comfortable place for all. By partnering with local organizations and providing resources, Oshkosh looks to ensure that aging adults have community support for wellness, housing, and transportation. The initiative prioritizes health and wellness for all residents, with a focus on active aging, housing, and transportation. The local age-friendly committee engages the community by creating awareness of resources and prevention programs and practices through intergenerational outreach and education. The goal is to engage the entire community in order to be proactive and make sincere intergenerational connections, mediate future crisis and reduce the need for protective service interference which will promote aging in place and independence for all individuals in the community.
Action Plan Highlights
Transportation
Improve local transportation options by identifying transportation gaps and focusing on transit stops that are difficult for older adults or people with disabilities to access.Housing
Assess the age-friendliness of current housing stock, including items like handrails, adequate lighting, easy open doors, benches, maintenance of sidewalks and parking lots, and provide age-friendly education to local landlords and leasing companies.Social Participation
Rebuild targeted outreach opportunities including farmer's markets, faith-based organizations, and community events, and promote additional local events that prioritize social interaction and wellness for aging and diverse populations.
