Montgomery County developed its action plan by working with community leaders and partners from nonprofit, business, faith-based, and ethnic communities in ten topic areas. In each area, the goal was to examine, address, and strategically plan programs and services related to aging populations within the county. The plan's topics include civic and social involvement; communications and outreach; elder abuse and prevention; employment, health and wellness; home and community-based services; housing; open spaces and buildings; senior public safety; and transportation and mobility. Montgomery County's action plan also intersects with dementia-friendly efforts in the community.

Progress Report Download
Montgomery County's age-friendly progress report shows a focus on public safety, housing, and enhancing employment opportunities for older adults, all through the lens of continuing education and recognizing programs for good work within the community. The county has launched a housing certificate program through a local community college on Understanding Aging, which is offered to managers and service coordinators of affordable senior living communities. They have also begun recognizing employers with age-positive programs through a special certification program and have worked with the County Office of Human Resources to create the county's first workshop on age-discrimination in employment. Additionally, the county initiated a public safety forum for networking and identifying outreach opportunities across departments and offices to seniors in the community.
