Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Health and Community Services

    Focus on promoting healthy older adults by providing free health and wellness programs, and promoting programs to foster socialization, promote mental and physical fitness, and engage in cultural arts.

  2. Communication and Information

    Promote activities and participation for people with disabilities and different levels of income in trainings on laptop use, social media, and internet browsing.

  3. Housing

    Focus on the unhoused by creating a homeless prevention and rapid rehousing program, and conducting outreach to homeless populations.

Description: This project will engage volunteers to restore a tree canopy, which was lost during Hurricane Ian, with native plants in a local park.

LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation (2021)

Project Category: Public space activation

Description: Downtown LaBelle was once a thriving destination, but in recent years many businesses have moved to different parts of town. Particularly challenging was an unusable tennis court, which sat vacant right in the heart of the downtown. To make the area more attractive to residents and visitors, the LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation created a new, multigenerational space in the footprint of the tennis court. Project organizers removed the court's worn concrete and equipped the space with a roofed gazebo, placing seating and game tables underneath.

Launched in 2017, the annual AARP Community Challenge provides small grants to local governments and nonprofits in order to fund quick-action, ready-to-implement projects that can help communities become more livable for people of all ages.
