Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Housing

    Support aging in place by educating the community, offering subsidies for home modifications, assisting with home retrofits plans and expanding handyman services.

  2. Civic Participation and Employment

    Collaborate with business owners to create age-friendly employment opportunities, allowing older adults to stay in the workforce. Expand post-retirement training options for higher-wage, less physically demanding jobs or entrepreneurship opportunities.

  3. Health and Community Services

    Launch public health initiatives focusing on physical activity, tobacco use, fall prevention and chronic disease management. Educate older adults on emergency planning and response.

Project Category: Roadway/sidewalks/crosswalk improvement

Description: Hoping to reduce traffic accidents at a busy intersection, the City of Cincinnati created a crosswalk mural in the Clifton Heights neighborhood. Community groups helped choose the mural's design and volunteers worked to paint it on the pavement. The crossing -- which is located near shops, restaurants, a high school and the University of Cincinnati's campus -- attracts heavy pedestrian traffic. In addition to beatifying the streetscape, project organizers hope the mural will make pedestrians more visible. The colorful, abstract artwork is meant to catch drivers' attention, causing them to slow down as they approach. In the future, organizers plan to install crosswalk murals at other popular intersections nearby.

AARP Community Challenge Grant Year: 2024

Project Category: HomeFit Modifications

Description: The fire department will conduct home assessments to identify issues that put older adults at risk of falls. They will also distribute home safety products, such as grab bars.
