Action Plan Download
Caribou developed its action plan with the goal of supporting active aging to maintain quality of life and well-being for everyone, and to identify and implement ways for people to age in place, stay connected to the community, and remain independent and meaningfully engaged throughout their later years. The plan is based on continuous cycles of research, development, implementation and evaluation. Caribou's age-friendly initiative promotes local resources like the Aroostook County winterization and fuel assistance program, local food commodity boxes, and partnerships with the local Area Agency on Aging.
Action Plan Highlights
Social Participation
Help people age in place by implementing programs that promote connection with others so that older adults can safely leave their homes and engage with fellow community members.Transportation
Improve access to transportation by introducing a Sand Buckets and Snow Shovel Program as well as by helping to promote and support a new program, Caribou Area Ride Service.Respect and Inclusion
Develop and implement initiatives specific to respect and social inclusion, including a volunteer ride program technology training and a health and wellness program.
