Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

    Improve flood mitigation by increasing green space in floodplain areas.

    Decrease CO2 emissions by increasing public transit options and providing increased electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Progress Report

In its age-friendly action plan, the City of Cape Canaveral focused on improving disaster resilience and environmental sustainability. Several ongoing transportation initiatives support these goals, including work to ensure bus stops are covered and feature solar-powered lighting. Additionally, the city is implementing Complete Streets projects to improve bikeability and walkability. Sustainable public spaces are also a focus, including green infrastructure projects to manage stormwater runoff and mitigate the risk of flooding. To ensure housing options remain resilient, they are also amending city code to allow for elevated living spaces.

Project Category: HomeFit Modifications

Description: Older adults in Rockledge faced trip hazards, poor lighting and hard-to-use fixtures, making daily life unsafe and independence difficult. Specialists assessed homes and completed modifications for 17 participants, installing grab bars, high-rise toilets, non-skid rugs and improved lighting. Outreach reached 68 residents and raised awareness of home safety. These changes helped older adults remain in their homes with confidence and spurred plans for a long-term program. One woman said her home feels "much safer" after upgrades like a deadbolt lock and task lighting, showing how small fixes can transform security and usability.

Project Category: Digital navigation skills

Description: This project will transform a minivan into a mobile resource hub, delivering digital literacy, health resources, financial education, and disaster preparedness to over 1,500 older adults in Osceola County.
