Older adults in Philadelphia faced home safety hazards that threatened independence and increased fall risk. To address this, the program hosted three workshops led by health professionals, teaching practical strategies for aging in place. Participants received tailored products like shower chairs and collapsible tubs, installed to improve safety. Eighteen older adults now live more confidently at home, and many reported immediate habit changes. One client said that these improvements made her routine safer and more comfortable, and the project fostered increased safety and independence.

The project produced and piloted a Resident Guide that explains these features in clear, usable terms, tested with a homeowner living in a certified Lifelong Home. The guide helped residents better understand their home and nearby services while also serving as a replicable tool for housing professionals. One homeowner said the guide was "super helpful so I don't have to do all the research myself." The work increased awareness of age-friendly housing design, informed future pilot projects and strengthened partnerships that can influence how homes are designed and finished in the years ahead.

The permanent space enhances Vernon Park and creates new revenue streams for sustainability.

Description: This project allowed Mt. Airy Community Development Corporation to intentionally recruit local older adults to take part in its PhillyiHub entrepreneurship program. Project organizers recruited a cohort of older adult entrepreneurs and held a series of virtual workshops to help them develop their businesses. Workshop topics include financing, business operations, marketing and branding. The six-week program provides one-on-one assistance with business growth planning and gives business owners a chance to network with each other. Project organizers say the older adults were engaged and open participants.
