Many older adults in Montbello lacked digital skills needed to access online services and stay connected. The committee expanded its training center and delivered an eight-week program that taught computer basics, file management, word processing, spreadsheets, email and digital safety. They added five computers and integrated skills into other programs. Participants reported greater confidence and independence. One participant said that she had always feared "breaking the computer", but now uses it comfortably to manage essential tasks.

Description: Many older adults in the community faced barriers to staying connected, from limited transportation to difficulty using digital tools. The center expanded learning opportunities by offering Technology for Seniors classes with new laptops and a Computer Corner, along with gardening workshops supported by raised beds, tools and plant lights. Participants practiced hands-on skills, grew flowers they later shared with others and gained confidence using computers to stay in touch with family. These programs continue to grow and will expand further once the center moves to a larger facility, creating ongoing opportunities for community members to build skills and maintain independence.

DRMAC addressed this by expanding its Getting There Travel Training program, offering bilingual sessions and guided bus trips to teach trip planning, ticketing and mobility apps. Surveys showed that many participants felt more confident using public transit. The effort strengthened trust in marginalized communities and improved access to daily needs. One participant said that as a result of the help provided by the program, he is excited to now be able to attend spirit-lifting activities.
