Older adults and visitors using mobility devices often waited outside historic buildings because portable ramps were impractical during events. To improve access, the park installed an ADA-compliant sidewalk linking five buildings and hosted a ribbon-cutting with volunteers assisting in landscaping. The change replaced temporary ramps with permanent access and sparked momentum for additional projects, including a village-wide walking system. One retired teacher said, "It was a joy to be able to tour with the Commission on Aging. The ramps were wonderful."

Description: Outdated technology threatened the audio service that thousands of older adults rely on for news, health information and election details. Sun Sounds upgraded six recording booths and a Master Control computer, giving volunteer readers, many age 50-plus, the tools to produce clearer, more efficient programming. The improvements ensure uninterrupted access to vital information for listeners statewide. One listener said the service made it possible to be an informed voter and stay connected through programs on health, hobbies and local news. Plans are underway to extend upgrades to other stations.

Description: To overcome limited hours and curbside-only service, the library installed a remote locker system and built a service patio with benches, giving patrons 24/7 access to reserved materials and a place to sit and use Wi-Fi. The project boosted library use and inspired plans for similar units in new housing developments. One older neighbor now visits anytime her helper is available, saying she appreciates having a space to hang out as well as get her library requests from the locker.

Description: Kansas City lacked seating in parks, bus stops and social service areas, leaving older adults without safe places to rest during long waits or walks. Deferred maintenance and concentrated development deepened this gap, especially in Justice40 neighborhoods. The project installed 12 benches, including buddy benches, at six parks across five neighborhoods, adding concrete pads and memorial plaques for durability. These benches improve comfort, accessibility and community connectedness while advancing the city's Community for All Ages initiative. "It may seem like a small thing... but many of our public spaces do not have places for people to sit," said one of the project planners.

Description: To encourage residents to walk and socialize, the North End Wellness Coalition installed seven benches along the North Quarter Pathways, an urban walking trail in Grand Rapids' Creston neighborhood. The ADA-compliant seating is designed to accommodate residents with limited mobility. To promote walking on the Pathways' five trail loops, the Coalition also founded an Active Living Team, which is working to plan community events and programming. Project organizers say working with City staff to install the benches laid the ground for other improvements throughout Grand Rapids, including upgrades to local parks and new scooter and bike racks.

Description: Long Michigan winters left older adults at Reflections Apartments isolated and unable to garden, a key source of connection and activity. Dwelling Place built an ADA-compliant greenhouse through five volunteer events, engaging many community members and local partners. The space extends the growing season and supports a seed-starting program led by residents. Older adults now plan to grow culturally relevant vegetables and share stories tied to gardening traditions, turning the greenhouse into a year-round hub for wellness and social connection.
