Description: Older adults in Byhalia needed a safe, inviting space to relax and connect. The project repaired sidewalks and added raised garden beds around a new three-acre orchard, creating a setting for gardening workshops, cooking classes and social activities. Fresh produce and fruit trees now provide healthy food, while the garden offers a serene environment for older adults and families. This space has become a hub for engagement and wellness, inspiring plans for additional community gardens and orchards to strengthen local connections.

Raymond, ME

Description: The Raymond Village Library hoped to create an accessible community amenity to foster intergenerational relationships. So they worked to create a community garden. Volunteers installed benches, shade structures and solar lighting, as well as a graded path and waist-high planters designed to be accessible for gardeners with disabilities. To make garden upkeep easier, they also added rain barrels and a drip irrigation system.

Winchester, ID

Description: Winchester lacked a shared outdoor space for growing food and connecting residents, leaving older adults with few options for fresh produce or social engagement. The library converted its patio into the town's first community garden with raised beds and ADA-accessible benches. Volunteers donated thousands of seeds, and programs featured cooking classes using garden harvests. The garden now serves as a hub for learning and connection, drawing older adults who were not regular library patrons. Produce is shared with residents and donated to the local food bank, ensuring lasting community benefit.
