Description: To invite young children and their caregivers to explore Westside Park, the City of Yankton Department of Parks and Recreation created its Born Learning Trail. The City installed a concrete trail in the park and installed signs in English and Spanish along the path. Each sign features activities meant to build language and thinking skills fundamental to child development. To give families a place to rest, project organizers installed picnic tables and benches. The City also commissioned seven local artists to decorate the trail's pavement with artwork related to the activities.

Description: The county will build a shaded, accessible outdoor gathering area in the park next to the Senior Center. The space will allow people to meet outdoors, attend no-cost activities and enjoy social time before or after programs.

Description: Outdoor mobility and stretching stations will be installed along a popular community walking trail. The stations will help adults age 50-plus stretch, improve balance and walk more safely and with greater confidence.

Description: Avoca's Main Street already had green space and places to sit, but Avoca Public Library organizers wanted to give residents a reason to spend time downtown. To invite people in, they installed oversized, weather-proof musical instruments outside the library. Since the instruments don't require any training or talent to play, they are popular with residents of all ages. Part of the town's creative placemaking plans, the new music park is located near the site of Avoca's weekly summer farmer's market. "It's a fun part of the town now," Avoca resident Sunshine Schoeller said.

Description: Residents will add murals, wayfinding signs, lighting and small green space improvements at the town’s main intersection. Clear paths and welcoming features will support walking, community events and social connection near parks and Main Street.
