Action Plan Download
Waterville developed its action plan with input from many community service providers, neighborhood groups, businesses, non-profit groups, governmental departments and residents. The plan commits to addressing issues across housing, transportation, social inclusion, and community and economic development. The plan's mission is to advise and advocate to make Waterville the best community it can be-helping everyone from toddlers to centenarians; rich and poor; various religious, ethnic, racial backgrounds; people with cognitive or physical disabilities and their caregivers; older people aging alone, living in extended family, and grandparents raising grandchildren; and for the LGBTQ and transgendered population. The initiative works to foster a community that adapts as its residents evolve, promotes activities to bring all generations together, and upholds age-friendly community values.
Action Plan Highlights
Transportation
Focus on street safety by promoting awareness of complete streets and partnering with the downtown association to encourage snow shoveling on sidewalks outside local businesses.Respect and Inclusion
Create more community activism by developing a coordinated plan to promote volunteerism, working with local media outlets to develop a public service announcement campaign, and collaborating with the local college to encourage activities that emphasize inclusion and diversity.Civic Participation and Employment
Train older adults to enter or reenter the workforce by promoting a process that turns skilled volunteers to permanent employees or positions that offer stipends, offering computer training for people needing more advanced skills, and assessing current workforce readiness resources.
