Action Plan Download
Champaign-Urbana developed its action plan as the culmination of two years of community engagement, participation, and planning. The plan is committed to ensuring quality of life for residents of all ages, and focuses on communication, enhancing resources to train older adults on technologies, social inclusion, combating ageism, and addressing barriers to public transit use. The plan is also focused on meeting the special needs of diverse populations within the communities.
Action Plan Highlights
Transportation
Increase comfort with public transit by implementing a bus buddy program. Expand the rural transportation system, C-CARTS, to increase older adult ridership and make the system more affordable.Respect and Inclusion
Mitigate ageism by supporting intergenerational interactions and increasing opportunities for volunteer organizations that support a diverse population of older adults. Fight against ageism and increase inclusivity by increasing positive media coverage of older adults.Civic Participation and Employment
Create a new generation of age-friendly leaders by building an age-friendly undergraduate internship program to work on age-friendly programming and research.
