Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

  1. Housing

    Provide additional affordable housing options and new income streams for homeowners by promoting the use of accessory dwelling units - such as in-law suites, backyard bungalows, garage or basement apartments.

  2. Transportation

    Create a trolley system through residential neighborhoods, making it more convenient for older residents to do daily, household errands.

  3. Outdoor Spaces

    Build a new, accessible city hall faciility in the downtown area, walkable to restaurants, shopping and residential areas that includes green space for community gatherings and is accessible to users of all ages and abilities.

Progress Report Download

The City of Tucker's age-friendly progress report describes the community's ongoing work related to walkability, housing access and affordability and social inclusion. The City developed master plans for its parks and trails and worked to add bike lanes and make crosswalks safer. It also expanded its sidewalk network, including installing new sidewalks in Tucker's downtown. The City conducted a story of housing needs and formed the Tucker Housing Coalition, whose members include elected officials, nonprofits and others. The City worked to build awareness of countywide property tax exemptions and provided rent, mortgage and utility assistance to families in need. Additionally, local nonprofits provided affordable home repair and modification services, allowing older adults to safely age in place. Finally, Tucker hosted a variety of community social events and informational trainings, and also expanded community gardening opportunities for its residents.

Description: Clarkston's only community center was unusable, leaving older adults without a safe space for activities in a city where language barriers and isolation are common. The organization renovated the center with new furniture and climate control, then launched crochet workshops pairing older adults with youth. It also spurred new Tai Chi and peace education classes. The permanent hub now hosts programs and resource drives, fostering intergenerational learning and cultural exchange. For residents age 50-plus, the center offers consistent programming and a nearby venue to stay active and connected.

Description: Residents of all ages will collaborate to create rotating murals that showcase local stories and identity. Art events will give older adults low-impact creative options, foster intergenerational bonds and beautify shared spaces.
