Action Plan Download
Springfield developed its action plan with the goal of helping the city, private and non-profit organizations, and residents move towards age-friendly physical, social and service goals. The plan encompasses existing community strategic plans and is meant to build off of existing knowledge and new technical developments across a range of disciplines and fields. The community is striving to be inclusive of people of all ages, and progressive in both age-friendly policies and attitudes.
Action Plan Highlights
Outdoor Spaces
Improve outdoor spaces for older adults by painting crosswalks at major downtown intersections, creating additional gathering and resting places downtown, and ensuring that community parks are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.Transportation
Increase options for affordable and accessible transportation by creating a low-cost, on-demand ride share program, and improving street safety.Housing
Add additional affordable and accessible housing by encouraging universal design principles to allow for aging in place, creating a Life-Long Housing Certification for builders, developers, and landlords, and working with partners to explore creating an older adult home-share network.
