Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Transportation

    Improve transportation access and safety for older adults and people with disabilities by expanding the operating hours of the Mobility on Demand Every Day service, installing and maintaining seating at more bus stops, enhancing safety measures on public transit, developing tools to map the density and location of older adults and people with disabilities, and repairing sidewalks to support safer travel.

  2. Housing

    Expand housing stability and affordability for older adults and people with disabilities by increasing the number receiving financial assistance to maintain housing or cover basic living expenses by 30% and advancing the development of 150 affordable units, including 50 low income, 50 very low income, and 50 extremely low income units.

  3. Health and Community Services

    Strengthen support for older adults, people with disabilities, and their caregivers by expanding and promoting family caregiver programs in partnership with community organizations, creating a comprehensive listing of community and health services on the City's website, and hosting four annual enrollment events to encourage participation in the Santa Monica Fire Department's Community Connect program.

Streets For All (2024)

Project Category: Reconnecting Communities

Description: Westwood neighborhoods were split by the 405 freeway, leaving older adults at nearby housing and the VA Hospital with unsafe, disconnected routes. To address this, Streets For All hosted pop-up events, including a community walk and an e-bike ride, to showcase mobility options and gather feedback on sidewalk and transit improvements. The events built momentum for bike lanes and first/last mile transit connections already in planning and strengthened advocacy networks. One participant said that she hadn't ridden in a decade and felt joyous by the end of the ride and had a blast!

Project Category: Expanding HighSpeed Internet

Description: This project will provide digital literacy workshops and accessible emergency resources to older adults and people with disabilities, enhancing disaster preparedness and promoting the use of high-speed internet.
