Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Transportation

    Address the gap in transportation services in targeted districts by championing new routes and enhanced schedules. Focus on drivers' safety by administering a Vision Zero pledge and offering driver safety courses.

  2. Housing

    Advocate for affordable housing and mixed-use neighborhoods for older adults, while Identifying agencies, businesses, and non-profits that offer home retrofitting services.

  3. Civic Participation and Employment

    Increase voter registration and show available voter education resources through an asset map.

Project Category: Housing Design Competitions

Description: San Antonio needed affordable housing options for older adults, but residents lacked awareness of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). Citymakery launched an outreach campaign with an informational video and a design competition, drawing 275 submissions and engaging families and students. The effort expanded through social media and libraries, sparking citywide interest and informing plans for permit-ready ADU designs. "The design process let me reflect on caring for my grandfather," said one winner, showing how the initiative connected housing solutions to real family needs.

Description: The project will improve lighting along walkways throughout Tower Park. Better visibility will reduce fall risk and help people feel safer walking during evening hours.
