Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

  1. Civic Participation and Employment

    Encourage older adult civic engagement by creating a Seniors Advisory Committee and providing advocacy and empowering training for older adults.

  2. Respect and Inclusion

    Raise awareness of the needs of older adults by partnering with schools, community groups, faith-based organizations, and the local library, including older adults in community and school events, and establishing a list of older adult groups and organizations on the local age-friendly website.

  3. Social Participation

    Ensure continued stable funding and support for existing municipal programs geared towards older adults, while advocating for new programs to meet the varying recreational needs of the older adult community.

Description: The Raymond Village Library hoped to create an accessible community amenity to foster intergenerational relationships. So they worked to create a community garden. Volunteers installed benches, shade structures and solar lighting, as well as a graded path and waist-high planters designed to be accessible for gardeners with disabilities. To make garden upkeep easier, they also added rain barrels and a drip irrigation system.

Project Category: Expansion and enhancement of transportation options

Description: This project will recruit, train and provide incentives to volunteer drivers to support a new on-demand ride service. Transportation options are currently limited for residents who cannot drive or don't have a car to get to medical appointments -- or anywhere else.
