Action Plan Download
Placer County developed its action plan in response to the community's growing older adult population. The plan emphasizes the needs of older adults and those with disabilities through the Aging and Disabilities Resource Connection (ADRC) model, which consolidates services and establish a single point of entry for long term services and supports. The initiative also focuses on reviewing and altering building codes, creating innovative housing opportunities such as pod villages, developing a coordinated effort at engaging and utilizing volunteers, increasing available shaded seating in our communities and installing buttons at bus stops and other gathering locations with recorded information on resources, services and events.
Action Plan Highlights
Housing
Increase options to assist older adults with homecare and repair, while also increasing the number of affordable living units with amenities that support people wishing to eventually age in place.Social Participation
Create a more engaged older adult community by involving older adults in the planning of activities and programming, and work to increase the participation of rural and isolated older adults in volunteering and community activities.Health and Community Services
Work on preventative healthcare for older adults by increasing affordable in-home health care options and by promoting awareness and access to prevention and health education programs.
Progress Report Download
Placer County has made significant progress over the last five years in meeting the needs of its growing senior population in areas such as transportation, housing, community and health services, and communication and information. With the Placer County Five-Year Plan concluding, the county will now pivot to the State's first-ever Master Plan on Aging (MPA). The MPA serves as a 10-year blueprint outlining five goals with 23 action areas and over 100 specific initiatives for implementation, and a Local Playbook with tools and resources for communities to create their own strategies on aging, disability, and dementia. Collaborative and cross-sector partnerships will be key to the success of the MPA. The first steps involve hiring a consultant to explore local data and conduct a baseline assessment of Placer County's age friendliness.
