Action Plan Download
Newport developed its action plan to address gaps in economic opportunity and social isolation. Newport's action plan commits to combating social isolation by improving access to town information and expanding access to internet and centralized communication systems, similar to a designated 2-1-1 service. Newport is also enhancing its already well-known outdoor spaces to make them more accessible for the public, building better business opportunities, and creating safer pedestrian and bike areas. Newport also focuses on aiding older adults with better housing repair services, better transportation, and greater access to caregivers.
Action Plan Highlights
Housing
Evaluate zoning restrictions on alternative housing options like homesharing, ADUs, village-to-village models, co-housing and cooperative housing, and increasing loans and grants to help homeowners adapt single family homes.Health and Community Services
Increase case management and create programs to shield older adults against caregiver abuse, family abuse, and financial abuse. Increase educational opportunities related to growing, purchasing, storing, and preparing healthy food.Transportation
Expand transportation routes to connect to services in adjacent towns by assessing current ridership and creating new partnerships.
