Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Communication and Information

    Improve digital and print resources for older adults by publishing a locally based resource guide, constructing an aging data center, and creating an information platform.

  2. Transportation

    Develop training opportunities for transportation service providers on appropriately interacting with and safely transporting older adults.

  3. Health and Community Services

    Collaborate with local and state mental health providers and organizations to create opportunities for on-site service delivery at local older adult and community centers.

Project Category: Micromobility enhancements/management

Description: Disabled veterans and older adults who could no longer cycle faced isolation and limited access to outdoor recreation. Bike Newport launched its Cycling Without Age program, offering scenic trishaw rides piloted by trained volunteers. Over 90 residents participated in 12 excursions, enjoying companionship, nature and cross-generational conversations. The program also raised visibility through parades and community events, inspiring future expansion. One participant shared, "There was a great vibe around Atria all day after this activity... residents are looking forward to this every Tuesday morning now".

Edward King House Senior Center (2026)

Project Category: Disaster Resilience Other

Description: The project will host pop‑up events to help older residents enroll in the city’s emergency registry, learn the basics of preparedness and receive starter emergency kits. The project will help people prepare for storms and power outages.
