Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Outdoor Spaces

    Educate the community importance of and benefits afforded by creating a built environment that works for visitors and residents of all ages.

  2. Social Participation

    Provide opportunities for older adults to cultivate social relationships, feel like a valued part of the community, and have access to resources.

  3. Housing

    Develop housing options that accommodate aging-related needs, and offer the safety, comfort, and assurance in having others around who are willing to assist, when needed.

Action Resources International - Feeding Laramie Valley (2018)

Project Category: Community Gardens

Description: Food insecurity is high in Laramie, with many residents lacking access to healthy, fresh produce. To increase food access, Action Resources International created a community garden. They considered the needs of older adults and people with mobility challenges when designing the space, adding accessible, raised garden beds onsite. The beds allow people in wheelchairs -- as well as those who find kneeling uncomfortable -- to tend to the plots. Project organizers hope the new garden provides learning opportunities for West Laramie residents and helps ease reliance on processed food.

Description: The project will convert a donated bus into an accessible greenhouse, which will be part of a community garden. The exterior of the bus will be decorated with tiles so that it will double as an art installation.
