Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Outdoor Spaces

    Provide trees, benches and picnic tables -- as well as accessibility supports -- in parks and along trails to ensure they are welcoming to people of all ages and abilities. Install wayfinding signage and maps to help visitors navigate these spaces.

  2. Transportation

    Foster walkability and bikeability by adding traffic calming interventions near busy intersections, conducting walk audits and expanding bike routes.

  3. Housing

    Encourage age-friendly and affordable housing development through incentives for developers and zoning ordinance updates.

Description: To improve the walkability and bikeability Wethersfield, the Town installed bike racks, signage and benches at several locations, including recreational spaces, municipal facilities and commercial areas. In addition, the town created walk and bike path maps, which it posted online.

Description: This project will transform five parking spaces into a community garden for six months each year. Three new raised garden beds will allow gardeners to grow fruit and vegetables for a food pantry and soup kitchen.
