Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Transportation

    Enhance the mobility of older adults by providing education on available transit options, increasing access to ride sharing, and expanding bus lines.

  2. Civic Participation and Employment

    Encourage businesses to adopt age-friendly practices that attract and retain older adults as customers and potential employees.

  3. Outdoor Spaces

    Improve pedestrian safety by conducting an audit to improve intersections and sidewalks, and creating a Complete Streets policy.

Progress Report Download

Englewood's progress report focuses on the community's successes related to vibrant public spaces, increased walkability and mobility and age-friendly housing options. In partnership with the local transit provider, the City conducted a walkability study and host transit training for older adults. The City formed a public arts committee and engaged artists to create murals throughout the community. Additionally, they advocated for more benches throughout Englewood's downtown. Englewood also held events to educate residents about housing options and services, including home repair and decluttering assistance and tax relief programs. They also advocated for a local homesharing program, legislation to produce affordable housing and for a Bergen County to hire a housing navigator to assist older adults.

Project Category: Roadway/sidewalks/crosswalk improvement

Description: The Township of Teaneck installed rapid flashing beacons at a busy intersection to alert drivers of pedestrians crossing the street. Project organizers hoped making crosswalks safer would encourage walking, leading to better health outcomes for residents. Teaneck has since upgraded additional crosswalks by adding more flashing beacons, lit pedestrian crosswalk signs and improved pavement striping.

Project Category: HomeFit Modifications

Description: This project will conduct three educational trainings on home safety for people of all ages. Participants will gain low-cost home safety and accessibility knowledge and may be eligible for minor home modifications.
