Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Health and Community Services

    Provide additional food items to those in need by opening a new, safe, welcoming food pantry.

  2. Transportation

    Provide a transportation option to those in need of resources by arranging weekly or bi-weekly rides.

  3. Outdoor Spaces

    Increase the functionality of outdoor spaces for older adults by providing bench seating along the most traveled routes.

Project Category: Park enhancements

Description: The Town of Dexter installed new benches on local streets and in parks to make them more accessible for older adults and those with mobility issues. Three parks -- Wayside, Ronco and Veterans Parks -- received the new benches. The Town also paved the entrance of Wayside Park, a popular gathering space for free weekly summer concerts. In addition, the Town offered Pop-Up Universities intended to provide residents with activities for learning, creativity and physical wellbeing, as well as social interaction. Topics include flower arranging, meditation and chair yoga.

AARP Community Challenge Grant Year: 2025

Project Category: Walk Audits

Description: This project will conduct five walk audits to identify locations for sidewalk and crosswalk improvements. Two community meetings will be held to discuss the audit results with residents and business owners.
