Action Plan Download
Dallas developed its action plan focusing on a number of key issues. The plan commits to improving park access and use, creating better open spaces and public buildings, and improving sidewalks in areas with high older adult populations. The action plan also works to ensure that all modes of transportation are safe, affordable, and accessible for people of all ages and abilities, and developing additional transportation options for older adults. Further, Dallas is expanding and promoting the development of diverse housing options that are affordable and accessible, such as senior housing, and supporting aging in place through the preservation of existing housing, and supporting efforts to address homelessness with older adults. The city is also improving health services and food access for older populations, and preventing elder abuse, financial exploitation and fraud.
Action Plan Highlights
Outdoor Spaces
Provide accessible and safe seating, drinking fountains, and public restrooms in more parks and public spaces using National Recreation and Park Association standards, advocating for new equipment when needed.Transportation
Increase access to transportation in transportation deserts by assessing gaps and focusing on areas with large older adult populations.Housing
Connect older adults with more housing resource organizations through an annual housing resource fair. Provide supportive housing to chronically homeless older adults by offering rental subsidies and supportive services for up to 24 months.
