Action Plan Download

An action plan is based on the results of community surveys identifying needs within the 8 Domains of Livability that influence the health and quality of life of older adults. While there is flexibility in how a plan is created and what it will do, every action plan includes a statement about what can be achieved, target dates for goal completion, identification of participating organizations and indicators to measure progress. The action plan is an "active" rather than static document. Revisions and amendments are a sign of program improvement and progress.

Action Plan Highlights

  1. Housing

    Work with partner organizations to promote and educate residents and builders on ADU's by creating multilingual guidance resources on permitting and development.

  2. Outdoor Spaces

    Create more interactive community events geared towards all age groups.

  3. Social Participation

    Engage older adults by fostering social connection and digital literacy through senior-oriented technology classes, and develop outreach and engagement plans that reflect the unique culture, strengths and needs of residents who traditionally experience a lack of connection, including veterans, people with disabilities, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and nursing home and assisted living residents.

Description: The project addressed limited social and recreational options for older residents in Ely, especially during winter, as well as barriers to technology access. The library purchased four VR headsets and hosted events to teach older adults how to use them, offering immersive experiences like virtual travel and nature walks. Participants expressed excitement and plan to return, and the program is evolving into a monthly Virtual Travel Club, creating new opportunities for socialization and learning.

Description: This project will expand Cycling Without Age at the Bike Library's programming to include people in wheelchairs through a new trishaw. This wheelchair-accessible bike will allow users to explore their community and nature.
