Action Plan Download
Atlanta, in collaboration with Georgia AARP, developed its action plan with a heavy emphasis on improving the built environment. Atlanta's plan aims to create a more inclusive community through safer, more connected neighborhoods, making sure infrastructure improvement programs also provide access for older adults and communities that are isolated. The city will expand quality-of-life efforts to create more affordable housing and better health programs and increase city recreation initiatives and multigenerational activities through cultural centers, area elementary schools, universities and public libraries.
Action Plan Highlights
Housing
Help low-income homeowners and first-time home buyers make critical repairs to their homes, or purchase homes, by partnering with community-based programs and non-profits. Build new affordable housing and provide needed upgrades to senior housing.Outdoor Spaces
Stimulate conversations between residents of all ages by adding historical markers in outdoors spaces, reflecting neighborhoods' character and roots.Civic Participation and Employment
Create more job opportunities for older adults and people with disabilities through internet-based training and coaching to prepare for job readiness and entrepreneurship, along with internet-based programs in homeownership, health, and civic engagement.
