Mount Washington Valley Gibson Age Friendly is a 12 community group with 11 communities in NH (Albany, Bartlett, Chatham, Conway, Eaton, Freedom, Hart's Location, Jackson, Madison, Ossipee and Tamworth) and one community in Maine (Fryeburg). They have developed a regional action plan that addresses social isolation, health and resources, aging in place, outdoor spaces, and transportation. The plan sets up town-specific service directories and establishes email exchanges to help older residents gain access to aging resources in their localities, and helps increase housing choice by creating a town-by-town guide on ADUs, along with resource documents for residents seeking subsidized housing.
Action Plan Highlights
Housing
Diversify housing stock and allow for higher density development by modifying local zoning, changing permit requirements to allow for more affordable and workforce housing, providing examples of successful affordable housing legislation to local communities, and creating resources for communities on building legal Accessory Dwelling Units.Outdoor Spaces
Encourage use of local hiking trails by residents of all ages and abilities through a regional health and wellness hospital partnership.
