Older adults in West Texas faced high disaster risks but lacked accessible training. United Rescue Alliance converted emergency response courses into virtual and hybrid formats and promoted them through non-digital outreach. Trainings covered preparedness, mental health and neighborhood response. Fifty-eight people enrolled, with many completing multiple courses. The project gave older adults confidence and life-saving skills so they can respond effectively during emergencies and help their communities.

Description: Older adults and people with disabilities in San Patricio County were often excluded from disaster planning due to lack of internet access and resources. To close this gap, the organization provided Wi-Fi, accessibility accommodations and stipends so older adults with disabilities could join a local health equity task force. Members shared firsthand insights, distributed preparedness materials and strengthened ties with agencies. Their involvement improved equity in planning and secured additional funding for continued inclusion, creating a foundation for long-term resilience.
