The museum's gardens had deteriorated, limiting educational programs and community use in a town facing food insecurity. To address this, the museum restored its historic grounds with LED solar path lights, ADA-compliant benches, wheelchair-accessible picnic tables and raised garden beds. Interpretive signage was added to connect the gardens with exhibits. These improvements created a welcoming space for learning and gathering, offering older adults accessible seating and gardening opportunities. A visitor expressed excitement about the changes, saying they look forward to enjoying the new herb and vegetable gardens.

Description: This project created raised gardening beds, designed to be accessible for gardeners who use wheelchairs. Volunteers constructed two dozen planter boxes and benches, which project organizers then set up in several locations, including at senior housing complexes community and senior centers, on a town main street and at a community garden. The project also created educational programming to teach older adult residents about adaptive and accessible gardening. Organizers say they hope maintaining the new planters will give people access to fresh food, as well as the opportunity to socialize.

Description: An overgrown lot at Pearl City High School left older adults without a welcoming place to gather. Volunteers cleared one acre and built "The Haven" with raised beds, tropical orchards, a pumpkin patch, picnic areas and a deck for classes. Festivals, workdays and workshops co-led by students and older adults turned the space into a hub for connection and learning. The school created a coordinator role to sustain the garden, and partnerships are advancing solar-powered irrigation and plans for outdoor classrooms and specialized gardens. The project will help spur long-term benefits to the community.

Description: Older adults who walk the Alameda Corridor to reach shops and health care often lacked safe places to pause, making trips exhausting and limiting independence. Alameda Connects installed a concrete pad with a bench and trash bin at a key resting point. It also added colorful ground murals at three sites, including a transit stop and Easterseals Colorado, to make the spaces feel safer and more welcoming. The project united older adults and students in painting days that sparked friendships and inspired neighborhood cleanups and business interest in murals. One teen said, "Thank you for letting me volunteer. This project gave me purpose."

Description: Older adults in rural Colorado often miss medical care or social activities because of limited transportation and harsh weather at exposed bus stops. To address this, All Points Transit began adding benches and shelters along expanded routes, giving riders safe seating and protection from snow, rain and extreme temperatures. Volunteers assisted with planning while contractors prepared concrete pads for installation. These upgrades will make public transit more accessible and comfortable, helping older adults maintain independence and reduce isolation.
