Pickleball grew popular in St. John, but older adults driving the trend had no dedicated courts and played in borrowed spaces. The project transformed an old tennis court into six pickleball courts, two more than planned. The courts are now used daily by residents of all ages, and the school added pickleball to its physical education program. The recreation commission plans tournaments to draw regional players, boosting health and community engagement. One participant said she was thrilled to have a court nearby, and says she will get to play more often now.

Description: The Town of Camp Verde's Parks & Recreation Division thought the community's outdoor pool had potential as an event and education space. To achieve their vision, volunteers laid concrete pavers, installed shade structures and added picnic tables. They also constructed a new fence to the patio. The improvements allowed the Town to increase recreational programming onsite, including exercise classes and a summer camp. Additionally, families can lease the space for parties and other gatherings.

Description: Austin Park offered little for older adults, with no safe walking areas or seating. Volunteers cleared overgrown land and built a 1,000-foot ADA-compliant trail with a footbridge linking the park to town, plus five benches, two with wheelchair platforms. Evergreen trees were planted to restore privacy for nearby residents. The upgrades created a safe, accessible space for walking and resting, drawing families and older adults who previously avoided the park. A ribbon-cutting drew 50 attendees, half age 50-plus, and future plans include wildflower planting and creek stabilization. One resident note how the trail now offers a safe place to walk for himself and other residents.
