Cascade, MT

Description: The Town of Cascade created an accessible picnic area in North Railroad Park, within walking distance of many local amenities. Town staff poured a concrete pad for the site, where they installed a walled seating area with two ADA-compliant picnic tables and a new flagpole. The local garden club lent a hand by filling at the site planters with flowers. Each year, the Town evaluates the accessibility of the projects it undertakes, and town leaders are committed to providing gathering spaces where residents of all abilities can gather.
Leadville, CO

Project Category: Park enhancements
Description: Many residents weren't aware of underused park in Leadville's downtown. To increase the park's visibility, the City revamped the space. They replaced eight benches and installed twinkle lights and a permanent fire pit made from a converted ore cart. Community members chipped in by creating mosaics on planters and painting a mural. The City held a well-attended kick-off party for the park, which featured fire pits and giveaways.
Paonia, CO

Project Category: Park enhancements
Description: The Town of Paonia made several improvements to Poulos Park, including construction of an accessible path, repairs to a wall, installation of new lighting and the addition of a conversation circle bench designed by local artists. The town also received the donation of a bronze sculpture to display in the park. Since these upgrades, a local theater company now uses the outdoor space, which also acts as a concert venue.

Clearlake, CA

Project Category: Expansion and enhancement of transportation options
Description: Lake County is home to a high percentage of older adults and people with disabilities, as well as many low-income families. Many of these residents struggle to get around, especially when they need to travel to medical appointments outside of the county. To fill transportation gaps, Lake Links set out to launch a year-long pilot volunteer driver program. They recruited volunteers and scheduled monthly trainings, enabling them to provide rides to older adults in Lake County. Since starting the service, organizers say community support for a permanent volunteer driver program has grown.
Mendocino County, CA

Project Category: Public space improvements to support recovery after extreme weather events
Description: Severe storms and wildfires often leave this rural coastal community without power for days, cutting off phone access during emergencies. To keep residents connected, volunteers distributed 70 solar-powered chargers with built-in lights and multi-device capability, working through the local adult center to reach those most at risk. Outreach included newspaper coverage and a planned radio interview to raise awareness. The project strengthened emergency preparedness for older adults and sparked plans to secure more units, reinforcing resilience in a region vulnerable to prolonged outages.
