Arcanum Public Library addressed a lack of reliable internet access that left many residents, especially older adults, disconnected from online services and social ties. The library built an outdoor gazebo that provides free, high-speed internet around the clock, giving residents a dependable option even when the building is closed. Designed for accessibility, the space was paired with hands-on training and one-on-one help so older adults could learn how to connect with confidence. One participant in his 70s, who did not have internet at home, shared that he often sat outside the library after hours just to get online and was relieved to have a comfortable, welcoming place to connect. Beyond access, the gazebo has become a gathering spot for informal social time and small programs, helping reduce isolation while reinforcing the library's role as a trusted community hub.
