Action Plan Download
Sunnyvale developed its action plan as an opportunity to assess its existing programs and learn about gaps in services or duplication of efforts with other community partners. The action plan's goals are to: create a safe, accessible city for all ages; improve mobility options for older adults; provide an avenue for older adults' input on future housing policies and projects; accommodate the diverse needs and culture of older adults; decrease the stigma of aging and ensure that older adults remain engaged; increase opportunities for older adults to contribute their skills; improve communication strategies to disseminate information to more residents; provide services and programs that support aging in place; ensure that older adults are involved in emergency preparedness; adapt services and programs to support the changing needs of the city's population; increase access and use of technology.
Action Plan Highlights
TransportationAssess walkability in different parts of the community by utilizing pedestrian advocates, while also looking for opportunities to gather input from older adults on streets and sidewalks.
HousingFacilitate home repairs by developing a list of vetted repair providers, along with a system to identify and review new repair providers.
Communication and InformationIncrease the availability of information on services and resources for older adults by publicizing 2-1-1 as an information resource and displaying information in diverse locations around the community.
