Northfield developed its action plan as the culmination of several years' work to better understand and empower older adults and to ensure that Northfield residents can live well as they age. The plan recognizes that the community already has many strengths for older residents, but more deliberate action must be taken to ensure that the growing number of older adults have the housing, transportation, and communication services needed to live engaged and independent lives. The plan therefore focuses on housing, health and wellness, community information, and outdoor spaces and buildings, recognizing that as life changes, communities have a responsibility and an opportunity to respond in a thoughtful and deliberate fashion, ensuring the inclusion and empowerment of its residents at all stages of life.
Action Plan Highlights
HousingCreate additional older adult housing with universal design features. Ensure that older adults are aware of independent housing options and housing with support services.
Health and Community ServicesAddress the health needs of older adults by increasing the availability and awareness of affordable in-home healthcare services and supports through centralized information sources.
TransportationFocus transportation planning on older adults by ensuring that streets, intersections, and sidewalks are well-maintained and well-lit, and that reliable and affordable public and private transportation services are available.
