Larimer County developed its action plan through the Partnership for Age-Friendly Communities. With its large size and urban/rural mix, there are unique challenges in the areas of transportation, housing, and health and wellness. The action plan acknowledges that while there is public transportation within, between and beyond urban areas, the distances are relatively large, making it inconvenient to use. The plan therefore looks to improve both urban and rural transportation, and make it more accessible to older adults. The plan also touches on housing, looking to ensure that older adults have a variety of housing options sufficient to meet their individual needs and for community support to make the options viable, focusing on choices, accessibility, affordability, community, and education. Finally, the action plan looks to ensure that older residents are able to enjoy optimal emotional, physical and spiritual health as they age, promoting healthy living, supporting social inclusion, and enhancing and improving wellness communications.
