Chemung County developed its action plan in collaboration with the Chemung County Age-Friendly Community Planning Committee, representing the public, private, non-profit education and faith-based sectors. The countywide plan focuses on creating accessible outdoor spaces, promoting recreational activities, improving transit, and creating access to public and private transportation options that are safe and pedestrian friendly. The county also aims to increase its affordable housing stock, and create options for residents who want to age in place.
Action Plan Highlights
TransportationCreate additional, cost-effective transportation options for non-driving older adults by providing additional secure bike racks, expanding private taxi services and ride sharing, creating a volunteer-based driver program, and working with local agencies to expand existing transportation programs.
IsolationIncrease public awareness of, and participation in, local congregate meal programs.
HealthProvide caregiver respite services that accept multiple payment mechanisms, including adult daycare programs, homecare providers, and short-term facility-based options.
