Action Plan
Birmingham developed its action plan as an advocacy tool, weaving the concepts of safety, security, equity, and poverty alleviationinto all of the plan's topics and issue areas. The plan commits to enhancing outdoor spaces, increasing transportation options, improving the existing housing stock to increase value and maintain affordability, improving health outcomes and creating new community networks. The plan also looks to invest in eliminating blight and to buildcommunity support for age-friendly initiatives by working with faith-based institutions, senior centers, and volunteer networks.
Action Plan Highlights
-
Housing
Reduce blight and create more desirable public housing by investing in land banks and ensuring that all public housing is within a 10-minute walk of a public park or open space. -
Transportation
Create better public transit and safer streets by developing a transportation communications plan and supporting Complete Streets policies.
